After nearly a week of dieting and improved exercise I decided to run my body through a little check up and progress test. I started this journey with a small nearly two mile run of which I did not push myself at all but did run a stopwatch on. That stopwatch read nearly 18 minutes for two times around the close to mile long course i selected.
I have kept up the healthier eating habits eliminating nearly all junk food and soda that used to be a regular part of my life. I pass on sweets and have a gallon of ice cream in the freezer that I occasionally grab a spoonful or two out of. These habits are becoming just that, habits that do not take a lot of effort to resist. I would rather have a cold glass of water to drink, a sandwich instead of a burger and a piece of fruit opposed to a piece of chocolate. I just hope that I can continue this healthy way of life as I am beginning to feel myself becoming more energized and healthy in everything I do.
Now back to my run this morning. I decided to take it up a notch and actually run for time. I picked a starting and finishing point and stood with my finger on the start button on my wrist watch. Taking a few deep breaths I pushed the button and took off. It was another cold morning as my breath was clearly visible with every exhale that I made. I rounded the first lap feeling fast but my body was definitely telling me it was being pushed. I kept going around the second time but could definitely feel myself wearing down fast. I crossed the finish pressing the stop button as I crossed the predetermined stopping point. I took deep breaths as I tried to feel my exhausted lungs with oxygen. I glanced down at the watch and read the digits 15:06. A relief came over my body as improvement was made. Like I said in the beginning of this quest I am not looking for world records but I will definetly take the personal bests that hope to come along the way.
So I am happy to report progress being made and starting the day off on a good note and now i am off to continue the day that awaits.
